Kuching Fund Raising on 22 June 2013

Invitation ...

Karar Line Dancing in Kuching (with co-host Sobrielo Philip Gene of Singapore) is honoured to present up-and-coming line dance star, TAJALI HALL (Canada) in a morning workshop and evening party in Kuching, Malaysia, in this event specially put up to raise funds for D'Wira Child Care Centre.

Tajali Hall first started line dancing at the age of 5 and has grown up in the dance community, traveling to events throughout North America since the age of 10. In 2009, her debut choreography "Sunglasses" won first place at the Vegas Dance Explosion and was taught shortly thereafter at the UCWDC World Championships by Guyton Mundy. Since the age of 18, Taj has had the opportunity to work with and teach alongside many of the choreographers she grew up respecting. Now 22 years old, Taj is a full-time support worker at a homeless shelter in her hometown of Calgary, Canada, and is in university studying to become an addictions counsellor. When she's not working, dancing, or in school, Taj enjoys hanging out with friends, spending time in the nearby Rocky Mountains, and any kind of adrenaline rush from scuba diving to skydiving!

D'Wira Child Care Centre is a private centre that is committed and dedicated to helping children from poor families break out of the poverty cycle that they have been in for generations by giving them quality education. Not only do they nurture these children intellectually, but they also teach them hygiene, build their characters, give them all milk (a "luxury" which the families cannot afford) and give them each one proper meal each day. They go around the squatter homes in the Kuching MJC area during school hours to look for unschooled children to rope in to teach them (mostly illiterates) how to read and write. They  provide transport to pick up the children from their homes. For all these, the children are charged RM20 (less than USD7) per person per month but most of them never pay this small fee because they just cannot afford to. There are currently around 64 children in the centre for this new year.

D'Wira Child Care Centre, started three years ago by Jap Siew Moi, depends solely on the goodwill and donations from friends and well-wishers to keep it going. They receive no fundings from the government and yet they spare no expenses to make the centre the best that they can, keeping it clean and just giving the children the best so that they (the children) can see that there can be something better for them! Recently, the centre had to shift out of their original "home" to another place which they are now renting for one year. Someone has come forward to offer them a piece of land to build a school, but they need money with which to build this. This is where we step in - to help raise funds for this building that is already changing the lives of the children and their families. The children are now better behaved, more disciplined and more willing to learn, and the parents have now come to realize that education can be the key to unlock the door to a better future for their children. Will you come and partner with us to make a difference for these children and the ones to come?

Yu Puay

2013 - classes starts 7pm

Our classes now start at 7pm (population at 6.30pm is too miserable)

This is our new practice for 2013

I will only revise each new dance /walk through  for 2 lessons. eg I teach "outta contro" on Wed. So I will walk through the steps the following 2 lessons ie Mon and Wed.

I hope to be able to dance with all of you at least 20 revision dances per class and teach a new dance for every class. We now start with 10 to 12 and gradually increase. The music runs with no interruptions for teaching.

But for the next few lessons we will need to  walk through some of the dances  below to make sure  the dance floor is well populated!

The choice is yours - dance all the dances together or you can always sit out for the dances you don't know/ don't like or you feel tired. Its fine with me - as long as I can teach and enjoy line dancing. Happy dancing

1. windy city waltz- walk through
2..Rule The World- walk through
3. Dance and Shout
4. Still Love Me tomorrow
5 I wanna-walk through
6. That Man-walk through
7. Twinkle
8. Gentle kiss
9. Samba Huh
10. Danced All Night
11. What Are Words-walk through
12. Beautiful In My Eyes
13. Outta Control-walk through
Some of these dances will be cancelled gradually with the addition of new dances.
